AMR vs. AGV illustration

The basics

AMR stands for Autonomous Mobile Robot, while AGV stands for Automated Guided Vehicle. Both deliver automation benefits but have unique advantages.

Navigation capabilities

AGVs follow fixed paths using sensors, magnetic strips, or wires embedded in the facility floor, making them ideal for predictable routes. However, this limits their flexibility if the layout changes.

In contrast, AMRs use advanced sensors, cameras, and onboard computing to navigate complex environments. For variable routes, like in warehouses or distribution centers, AMRs offer unmatched adaptability.

Application scalability

AGVs are often used for high-volume tasks, such as moving pallets in manufacturing. Once the infrastructure is in place, AGVs can work tirelessly, making them suitable for stable operations.

AMRs are better for rapidly scaling environments where layout or task demand shifts based on seasonal peaks or obstacles. Their navigation flexibility allows deployment in different zones, making AMRs ideal for production, e-commerce, or fast-moving warehouses.

Safety and responsiveness

AGVs have reliable sensors that stop for obstacles but need human intervention for removal of obstacles, because they can’t navigate outside the fixed paths.

AMRs respond in real-time to changes in high-traffic areas, making them well-suited for environments with frequent human interaction, offering safety without compromising efficiency.

Cost considerations

The initial pricing for AGVs and AMRs is often similar, but AMRs can be more cost-effective due to lower overall costs.

AGVs typically have less expensive vehicles, but their software constitutes a larger portion of the total cost, and implementation can take longer, increasing overall expenses. In contrast, while AMRs may have higher-priced vehicles, their software and implementation costs are lower, often making them a more economical choice for automation projects.

Our automation solutions are designed to meet the varied needs of production and logistics companies across diverse industries. However, environmental requirements vary depending on the specific AGV or AMR model selected.

  • AGILOX is optimal for smoother, even flooring and provides high flexibility in facilities where layouts change frequently. Like WEWO, Agilox also requires Wi-Fi, a reliable power supply, and connection to the fire alarm system. It is also crucial that the environment is not damp, as the Agilox AMRs are not designed for such environments.
  • WEWO is engineered for robust environments with its larger wheels, enabling it to operate smoothly on uneven floors. Key requirements for WEWO include a stable Wi-Fi connection, power supply, and connection to the fire alarm system. It is important to note that the WEWO AGV should not be used in damp conditions unless it is the Stainless Steel AGV models, which is specifically designed for such environments.

A ROI (Return of Investment) calculation generally includes initial investment costs, maintenance expenses, operational savings, and efficiency gains over time.

For facilities operating on single-shifts, the solutions typically pay for itself within approximately 2 years, while for two- or three-shifts operations, the payback period is approximately 1 year. This calculation is performed by the customer, as it depends on specific operational parameters and expected benefits unique to their facility.

ROI = (Net profit/Investment Cost) x 100

We collaborate with Leasing providers to offer tailored leasing plans, providing a convenient alternative to immediate full payment. This flexibility allows each company to select the solution that best fits into the financial strategy and operational needs.

Delivery times are carefully planned to align with the customer’s specific project timeline. By setting up a clear and open communication process from the beginning, we ensure that the agreed delivery date is realistic and achievable based on your operational schedule.

  • AGILOX uses a high-power lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery pack, which is based on lithium-ion cells. In the event of fire, these batteries can be extinguished using a powder extinguisher, providing an added layer of safety for operations.
  • WEWO is equipped with lithium ion batteries that require special precautions to ensure safe operations. These measures are implemented to enhance safety and ensure the reliability of the system in various environments.

Our AGILOX AMR and WEWO AGV solutions are designed with energy efficiency in mind. They consume less than half the energy required by traditional stacker forklifts. This significantly reduction in energy usage not only lowers operational costs but also contributes to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly operation.

By choosing our automated solutions, you can improve efficiency while minimizing your carbon footprint, making them an excellent choice for businesses looking to enhance their sustainability initiatives.

If the unthinkable should occur and the machine comes to a stop, there are specific procedures to follow depending on whether you are using Agilox or WEWO.

  • ForAGILOXtheICOS-S1 lifting equipment. can be used to reposition the machine. Additionally, switching to manual mode allows the machine to be controlled from a tablet or mobile device, enabling straightforward maneuverability even when automatic functions are inactive.
  • ForWEWO, the machine is equipped with a removable controller, allowing it to be manually operated if needed. A forklift can also be used to move the machine as required.
